Matching Your unique personality with your dog

Have you ever seen those photos of dogs, that look very similar to their owners?

According to research there’s actually some science behind this bizarre phenomenon. These scholars can only guess at some of the reasons behind these types of odd identity similarities found with their masters and subsequent canines, but some suggest it could simply be a matter of choice.

While you can pick out a dog according to their breed-specific natures that happens to resemble you on the outside, what about matching your inside personality and other inner traits with your pet? Just like any type of relationship, opposites don’t always attract and you’ll want an animal that also shares your interests, sense of adventure or lack thereof.

Does Size Really Matter?

Sometimes those who live in smaller spaces, like flats or maisonettes, may have their mind set on a larger canine. But choosing from any number of smaller breeds instead (purely because of size limitations) doesn’t mean you have to settle for a wee, little dog. Just because you live in a place without a great deal of indoor or outdoor space doesn’t mean you can’t have a big dog.

We often forget that even the largest of canines sleeps an average of 12-14 hours in any given 24-hour cycle according to experts. These bigger breeds have even been referred to as “mat dogs” due to the inordinate amount of time they spend simply lying around and include:

  • Great Pyrenees
  • Mastiffs
  • Newfoundlands
  • Bernards

If you’re looking for a couch companion, any of these breeds would be an option. But remember this doesn’t mean they don’t need regular exercise, a good healthy diet and a precise, scheduled routine to be at their best.

Purse Puppies Versus Pulse Pounders

Back to the size ratio topic, some women (young and old alike and even some men for that matter) prefer a tinier dog that makes for an excellent companion. They’re sometimes called a “purse puppy” for their ability to fit into a handbag. These pint-sized pooches are usually very affectionate, loyal, extremely playful, active and energetic. But for those who are more outdoorsy and into fitness may enjoy a larger playmate.
